Ndiigbo in New England Mourn Nnenna Umeh

As ndiigbo in New England continue to mourn the passing to glory of Mrs. Nnenna Umeh, IONE president, Attorney Godson Anosike (Ofokadike I of Abagana) has called on the entire members of the Igbo community to rally around Chief George Umeh and his family at this difficult time. Speaking during a condolence visit to the family with the members of his executives, Attorney Anosike described Mrs. Umeh as an outstanding member of IONE who was in the past honored with an award because of her contribution to the community.

Also speaking during the visit, Chief Celestine Enere (Ezeoha V of Owere) treasurer of IONE, encouraged Chief Umeh to accept the loss as the will of God. He also pledged the support of the Igbo community to the family.

Responding on behalf of the family, Maazi John Nwachukwu thanked the members of IONE for the love and support they have so far shown the family. He promised to include IONE in the funeral planning process.

Mrs. Umeh passed away on Tuesday August 12, 2008 at the Beth Isreal's Deaconess Hospital, Boston after a brief illness. She is survived by her husband Chief George Umeh (Chimereeze I of Ubulu Ochiogu, Ochendu I of Obala Isuochi) and three children.

The wake, which will be hosted by a committee of friends in conjunction with the Abia American Association and the Igbo Organization of New England, will take place at the Wing Fook Funeral Home, 13 Gerald Street, Boston, MA 02119. Flyers announcing the wake keeping will be downloadable from this site from August 22, 2008.
